what we really miss about the 50's

As i read this story it makes me think to what my ideal time period would be. I would have to say that i agree with Stephanie Coontz. The 50's frame of mind is all about "the good ol' days". When we all look back to our life we think of the simple times. Times before bills and work. In my mind that is what these people that Coontz interviewed remembered.
To those in the story it seemed like some of the important things to them are
wages, homes, families and moral order. By moral order is that everything had a
place. Whether it was right or not, it had its place.
in the family it was talked about divorce rates so in a time that the nucular
family was what was broadcasted over the air there was a problem that they
wanted fixed
Wages and homes fit together but are still by themselves. the wages were
such that more people could buy a house granted there was a man involved to
put the land in his name.

  1. When you talked about the "good old days" before bills and etc. it made me think that its all about being a kid. Being a little girl in the 80's I don't know that I can say that the 80's is or was the best decade to grow up in, however I loved my time as a little girl. Now I wouldn't want to go back to my teenage years, you couldn't pay me enough money, but there's nothing like being a small child and just being able to have fun and enjoy life before the responsibilities of adulthood track you down.
